Our Mission
Pride Banana is a first-generation, queer-owned apparel and lifestyle brand.
We are innovators, and dreamers looking to “take back” pride from big box retailers profiting from our community once a year and believe Pride should be celebrated year-round. We focus on creating minimalistic (and sometimes sassy!) pride and queer-centric apparel made by queer artists for queer folxs and allies for everyday wear.
At Pride Banana, we want to set a new direction for the queer community. Our vision is centered around delivering value and representation to our diverse community and strive to create a brand that is inclusive for all.
Our Values
Self-love and acceptance It took us a long time to get here, and it got better. We want to create and foster love and confidence in everything we do. If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell are you going to love somebody else?
Genuine curiosity We’re all learning and growing everyday. In all things, that child-like curiosity should exist and persist. Curiosity puts us on a journey to learn from our mistakes, reassess and reinvent.
Representation Tailor our brand and community to anyone and everyone who wishes to be a part of it. Creating products made by and for the queer community.
Generosity We believe in putting our money where our mouth is. A portion of profits go towards lgbtqia+ nonprofits focusing on mental health issues.
Who Are We
Pride Banana was born out of two Cuban-Americans based out of the nation's capital, Washington D.C. Our stories are a bit different, but converged in 2018. Michael was born and raised in Miami, FL and moved to D.C. after graduating from the University of Florida. Gustavo was born into a Cuban family and raised in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, he has been residing in Washington, DC for the past 13 years. A couple of years ago, we both swiped right and have been together ever since. We're both extremely passionate about our gay identity and the broader LGBTQIA+ culture. We decided to start Pride Banana in an effort to focus that passion into something meaningful, that not only creates "pridewear" that we don't see in the market, but also to give back to our community in ways we can't imagine doing on our own.
